The Club:

Glasgow University Football Club was formed in 1877. It is still one of the most competitive and successful sports clubs at the University.

Within the club there are 4 different squads; Under 21s, 3rd team, 2nd team and the 1st team, who all compete to a high level in Saturday football.

In addition to this, the club puts forward 3 squads to compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport leagues, where they play against other universities around Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The Teams:

Our first team is always among the strongest in Scotland; recently winning the BUCS 1A  League Title – the highest tier of Scottish University football. They also perform strongly in the West of Scotland Football League on Saturdays having recently moved into senior football for the 2020-2021 season. This follows many years of competing in the Caledonian Amateur Football League. As a member of the SFA, our first team is allowed to compete in the prestigious Scottish Cup. Season 2018-19 was a season of success winning 80% of games to claim the BUCS 1A league title.

Our second team competes in the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL Division 1 after gaining promotion from Division 2.

Our third team gained promotion in season 2016-17 which means they are now competing in the 2nd tier of the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL. As well as promotion they also reached the cup final of the Bobby Thomson cup, which they narrowly lost out on in the final.

The Under 21’s achieved a mid-table finish in the competitive West of Scotland 21’s first division. They hope to build upon this next season.
